The triple edged phurpa, (Tibetan word - Meaning Peg), is symbolically used to cut off or pin down the three basic  poisons: desire, anger and ignorance, which are responsible for all our miseries and sufferings. Phurpa manifests Buddha’s power through wrathful deity Vajrakillaya.  It is used to remove all obstructions and subjugate the subterranean forces of  nagas, who are believed to cause many water born diseases.
